About us

Arlington Wrestling Club (AWC) Information.

AWC is the feeder program for the Arlington High School wrestling team.  We practice at Arlington High School, and compete in both USAW and AAU events in Tennessee and neighboring states. AWC was established in the fall of 2008 and is the local youth wrestling club for Pre-K through 8th grader in Arlington, Lakeland and surrounding areas.

AWC’s mission is:

1.       Serve as a development program for the AHS Wrestling program

2.       Promote youth wrestling awareness in Arlington and surrounding communities

3.       Develop mentally strong and physically fit athletes

Our club offers a competitive youth wrestling program that encourages youth participants with the ideals of hard work, sportsmanship, and respect.  The club operates out of Arlington High School and does local fundraising to help keep costs low.  Competitions are primarily on Saturdays and most tournaments are local to the Memphis area.  Organized travel opportunities are available to tournaments in Middle and East Tennessee and in neighboring states for increased levels of competition.

AWC is a member of USA Wrestling and AAU wrestling. We consistently return several state qualifiers every year. The team has a wide range of experience and abilities, creating an environment suited for those new to the mat and to those with high expectations who expect to be challenged.

Arlington Wrestling Club has a very experienced coaching staff.  Our coaches have a combined 100+ years of wrestling and coaching experience from the states of Missouri, New Jersey, Utah, Wisconsin, Georgia, West Virginia, Nebraska, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Why Wrestle?

·         Opportunity to compete with an opponent your child’s age and size

·         Wrestling requires agility, coordination, strength, and mental toughness.

·         Wrestling teaches self-reliance; the ability to make things happen on your own.

·         Wrestling is one of the original sports in the ancient Olympic Games.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Charter

AWC is chartered through USA Wrestling, the national governing body of amateur wrestling.

Practices

Held at Arlington High School gymnasium and wrestling room, practices are held two to three times a week in the evenings from six to eight pm.

Competitions

Competitions take place in the form of dual meets and tournaments. The team attends tournaments on Saturdays throughout the season. Dual meets are generally scheduled on weeknights between 6 and 9 pm. Typically we will wrestle one event per week but some weeks will contain both a dual meet and a tournament. Most competitions will take place within Shelby County but there are several events that will require travel for some wrestlers outside the local area.

AWC will attend tournaments in middle Tennessee and may attend tournaments in Arkansas, Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky and other surrounding states. Overnight travel will normally take place on Fridays with competitions occurring on Saturdays. Out of area travel is not mandatory for any wrestler.
